Quench-Gone Organic (QGO-M) is based on the measure of ATP and is intended for samples containing organic compounds such as metalworking fluids, oil, fuels and biofuels. This kit measures, in few minutes, the total quantity of microbial activity through a single analysis in order to assess microbiological contamination, prevent bio-deterioration, optimize biocides treatments and assess their efficiency. The kit QGO-M can be used to assess the total microbial load in:
The kit QGO-M measures only intracellular ATP (cATP) and though allows the direct quantification of living microorganisms.
Intracellular ATP (cATP), that is the ATP contained in living biological cells, is the true indicator of the concentration of living microorganisms in the sample. Measuring living biomass through the cATP parameter includes measuring cultivable, non-cultivable and difficult to culture bacteria.
Increase of intracellular ATP in samples indicates proliferation of microorganisms and a quality degradation of oil, fuels, lubricants etc. If active biomass reaches levels above recommended thresholds, a microbiological drift is taking place. Increase of the active biomass can be seen as an early alarm of microbial disorders in the installation.
The QGO-M test kit is fully compliant with ASTM Standard E2694 for the measurement of ATP in Metalworking Fluids.
The first preliminary step is washing of organic compounds from the sample for their elimination. The sample is submitted to filtration through a filter attached to a syringe (QG-prep kit). Only living micro-organisms are retained by the filter’s porosity. Then, lysis of microorganisms is performed directly on the filter using the UltraLyse reagent from the QGA kit and Intracellular ATP is released. The ATP solution is then diluted and the concentration of ATP is measured using Luminase reagent (Luciferine/Luciferase complex). An external standard calibrated ATP solution, Ultracheck1, allows providing reliable quantitative results.
Total time to result is 3 minutes. Final results are delivered either in pg ATP/ml or Equivalent Microorganisms/ ml (1pg ATP = 1000 Equivalent microorganisms).
Equivalent microorganisms include cultivable microorganisms and non cultivable microorganisms and this level is not directly comparable to CFU results from culture methods.
