How is ATP measured? ATP analyses take only minutes to perform - from collecting the sample to obtaining the result, it's as easy as one, two, three!
Step 1 :
ATP is extracted from living cells and stabilized for accurate measurement.
Step 2 :
The extract is diluted to remove potential for inhibition.
Step 3 :
ATP energy is converted into light in the presence of Luciferase:
Luciferase occurs naturally in the tails of fireflies. LuminUltra™ has harnessed the ability of this naturally-occurring process to provide near-instantaneous indication of microorganism concentration in nearly any type of water!
The light output from this reaction is measured using a luminometer, where the amount of light produced is directly proportional to the amount of biological energy present in the sample. This reaction is linear over many orders of magnitude, allowing for the measurement of a wide concentration range of microorganisms.
