societeBiological Wastewater Treatment

When high part of sanitation is biological, current management tools are based on physical and chemical parameters measurement. QG21-W™ kit gives a precise indication of the biomass population, health (BSI) and respiration (ABR) in the aerial tank. A perfect tool for an optimal pilot of a WWTP with energy savings, flock bulking early detection, influent qualification…

What if you could...

  1. Improve process stability
  2. Monitor influent toxicity
  3. Reduce operating costs

... all with one tool?

Now you can! For wastewater treatment processes, LuminUltra™ supplies Total Control, a rapid and accurate test kit for measuring microorganism concentration and health at any location. Total Control is based on the measurement of ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate), the energy carrier for all life. Measuring ATP is the “Gold Standard for measuring active microorganisms!”

Using Total Control

Total Control measurements are an excellent compliment to current monitoring practices! ATP is specific to the microorganisms, and therefore provides a superior means for control and statistical process analysis. Total Control provides three pieces of information with a single measurement on any sample:

  1. cATP™
    Biomass concentration
  2. BSI™
    Biomass health
  3. ABR™
    Biosolids viability

Using Total Control

Total Control™ provides the first line of defense against process upsets in a wastewater treatment facility. In conjunction with other routinely collected data, Total Control results can become an invaluable component of a continuous improvement program. Improving process stability and efficiency can decrease operating costs and minimize additional capital costs! Use Total Control to:

Manage Bioreactor Efficiency: An efficient bioreactor contains a high proportion of active biomass and utilizes less oxygen and nutrients. High efficiency can help to maximize the utility of infrastructure, reduce supplement requirements, and minimize waste production! By pacing nutrient delivery to the actual biomass concentration as measured via cATP™, the operator will be able to improve cost-efficiency and avoid having un-degraded nutrient escape in the effluent! In addition, cATP and BSI™ can help the operator to determine how much aeration is enough to support the population. Any other process variable can be optimized using the same procedure.

Ensure Effluent Compliance: cATP measurements can be used to indicate biomass escaping in plant effluent! Measure effluent cATP to guard against deflocculation, and measure around disinfection processes to prevent process overload and reduce chemical overfeeding or electricity usage.

Improve Process Stability: Process upsets generally occur because of a process operation or influent quality change. Often, such upsets occur without warning and the cause is only identified after the fact. Using Total Control, operators can see upsets coming and can take actions to prevent them in both aerobic and anaerobic reactors! More accurate F/M control using cATP leads to more consistent biomass quality! This can help minimize instances of bulking, reduce wasteful aerobic digestion in the bioreactor, and can result in less overall waste biomass!

Monitor Influent Quality: Because the biomass contained in collection systems is similar to that of the bioreactor, changes in influent biomass quality can be used as an indication of oncoming toxicity! Use BSI measurements on influent streams at various collection system locations to determine the source of stress in the bioreactor and take action to minimize future problems!

Balance Complex Processes: Because ATP is specific to microorganisms, its measurement acts as a natural tracer to identify bioractor efficiency! Use Total Control to assess bioreactor mixing efficiency, and balance loads in parallel trains!

Why Choose LuminUltra?

Biological wastewater treatment processes harness the ability of microorganisms to treat a variety of wastes. By measuring microorganism concentration and health, these processes can reach a new level of stability and cost-efficiency! Total Control is:

Easy: Total Control test kit are easily used by any operator or technician and does not require special sampling techniques. Results are easy to interpret and the equipment is entirely portable!

Fast: A single Total Control test takes under 5 minutes to complete on-site! Having immediate feedback facilitates reliable operation and maintenance on a daily basis. Plus, suspect results can be repeated on the spot!

Economical: By comparison with other microbiological analyses, Total Control is very economical with a high value per unit cost! Plus, by incorporating the results of Total Control analyses, a significant return on investment can be achieved through superior process control!

Flexible: With a wide range of detection capability, Total Control can analyze any sample in a wastewater process. Use it to measure the concentration and health of biomass in influent streams, aerobic or anaerobic bioreactors, process effluents, and more!

Superior: Total Control is fully optimized for wastewater and is unique – no other supplier can match its ease of use and accuracy! In addition, Total Control has the ability to convert instrument light readings (RLU’s) to active organism counts, multiple barriers against inhibition, even the ability to measure microbial health and wastewater toxicity!

Specific: Conventional bioreactor monitoring includes the use of total solids measurements to infer microbiological concentration. Because ATP is contained in all living organisms, Total Control is a superior means of measuring biomass
